“Love seems the swiftest, but it is the slowest of all growths”
-Mark Twain
It amazes me the idea of the fairytale, white horses and princes', epic battles in the name of love...how romantically asinine. The world is a much more jagged place as many of us already know, but it’s funny how the "Fairytale Complex" as I shall call it for now transfers into much of our adult life (some way more than others) either it be a foreign prince who swoops down and whisks us away from our troubles, or the frog of a man who we hope if we kiss him enough he might actually be a gentlemen under all that mucus...ewww. Well for the first sorry to say but Prince William is TAKEN so fat chance!! For the second...sweetie if you kiss a frog too many times you just might get warts. So a lot of people say "What’s the point?!" But if we pull the Disney Mickey Mouse shaped sunglasses off of our eyes we'd see a whole new world of possibilities (yes that was an Aladdin pun).
Our life is nothing but reoccurring "Once Upon A Times" like a revolving door people come in and out creating new chapters in our lives, and sometimes in our hearts. You remember the feeling when you were young and you met that amazing guy/girl who just came out of nowhere and swept you off of your feet, and you swore up and down that the angels in heaven told you it was love…or something like it. Ask yourself how many romantic partners can you tie these memories too? Was each one better than the last emotionally? Now how many times did you come crashing back to earth? Myself included. I’m still trying to de-mystify this fickle mistress called Love... She’s a bitch and always has something tied along with her. But that doesn’t mean she’s not worth the wait, love is a hard road, you cry, you laugh, you work and hope that at the end of the day you’ve captured an cultivated something more precious than anything...a soul mate. A person whose very breath of being is tied to your heart, a person who resounds through you mind, body, and soul. And you are these things to each other equally, now THAT is true love!
All things life are a cycle and that goes double for love as I am learning, there is no magic potion or hocus pocus you must start at the beginning and work your way up to your complete happiness and if you find someone who (and this is important) has SHONE you they are worthy of your love, hold on and don’t let go…
"There are no happy endings - an ending cannot be happy... there are only happy MOMENTS, and, because they do not last, they must survive in our memories”
- Fatman Jones
Aaah...another thought provoking post, my friend. It makes me think of this song (me and my songs!!) that I listen to all the time. It's called 'Make Believe' by Sibel Redzep. The song is about a girl who wants to fall in love but is disheartened because all she sees in life is fairytale that will never come true. Yet she can't stop herself from yearning for that fairytale love.
ReplyDeleteLike we all do. Despite the fact that everything we see about love is mostly make believe, we still want it.
